So why should you take a {life as art} Workshop? In a crowded market, what makes this workshop different from all the others?
Well, that's a good question and one that we spent a lot of time thinking about. When you attend a workshop, we feel you should receive a comprehensive, well thought-out curriculum—something that will continue to grow with you for at least a year or two after your attendance. A workshop should be so much more than just a collection of power point slides put together over a weekend. We fully recognize that our attendees make sacrifices to attend our workshops and we want to ensure that each attendee leaves our workshop feeling profoundly that it was well worth their time and effort.
Consequently each of our workshops is the result of nearly a year of development. Each workshop includes a 200+ page textbook written specifically for the workshop. Our textbooks include instructional material, exercises, quizzes and worksheets to help your learning continue even after the workshop has ended. Additionally, each workshop includes a DVD with hours of video demonstrations and editing tutorials, in addition to Photoshop actions, templates, business helps and much more.
For us, it's one thing to be able to do something yourself, but it's an entirely different thing to break down what you do into easy-to-understand steps and then teach the process to someone else. We specialize in this and attendees regularly compliment us on our ability to break-down and make complex topics understandable and easily applicable. With significant professional experience in curriculum development and teaching, we also thoroughly understand how adults learn and strive to make our workshop experiences as rich as possible.
Additionally, we understand that most people attend our workshop because they feel something just isn't working for them. They're tired of spending every evening editing photos , or they feel that the spark has gone from their work, or they love to take photographs but have issues with turning it into a business, or they just want to feel more confident about their ability to take consistently beautiful photographs. Perhaps it's even all of these.
The reality is that most concerns revolve around image quality. If images come out of the camera consistently beautifully lit and technically sound, then you will spend less time (if any at all) editing them in Photoshop. This also means that you will suddenly be spending considerably less time in front your computer, giving you more time to shoot and grow your business. This will in turn energize you and boost your confidence. And it all comes back to just having better images in-camera.
Consequently, getting your images right in-camera is one of the big focuses of the {life as art} workshops. We want you to leave our workshops being able to take a beautifully-lit image at any time of day. In fact, every image on this page is a straight-out-of-camera (SOOC), RAW image without any editing whatsoever just to emphasize the point. How much post-processing work do the images on this page really need? And wouldn't it be nice to have every image come out of camera looking amazing? You can take perfect images in-camera every time, every shot. You just have to know what to avoid and what to look for. This email from a recent workshop attendee, just a week after she attended our professional workshop, sums up how most attendees feel:
"I had a family photo shoot last night - Grandparents, 6 adults children, all married, 11 grandchildren - the kind of shoots most people hate - but IT WAS AWESOME! I had them bring a couch, found great light, shot over 300 pictures, and was DONE with the proofs by the time I went to bed last night!!!! I am freaking out! So easy! SO GREAT! I almost feel guilty taking their money it was so easy and fun! (well . . . not that guilty). Anyway, thank you again for a life-changing workshop!" —Kate T.
The {life as art} Workshops launched in 2009 to rave reviews. We solicited feedback from attendees and their response was staggering. Attendees overwhelmingly gave the workshop 5-stars and heaped praise for our attention to detail, organization and depth of instruction. In fact, we regularly receive only two criticisms: (1) that the workshops should to be more expensive because we give so much amazing information and (2) that we spoil our attendees so thoroughly that they feel let down if they attend any one else's workshops after attending ours.
We put in long hours preparing for each workshop and we are so excited that all our hard work has resulted in a fantastic experience for our attendees. Many have raved that our workshops taught them more in a few days than they had learned in the previous year of study. The workshops for this year promise to be equally fantastic, as we have spent past months tweaking the workshops, finding little ways to make them even better!
